A TOOL FOR OPTIMUM MULTI-PERIOD DISTRIBUTION NETWORK EXPANSION PLANNING

Abstract

This paper presents a tool for the automatic creation of an optimal stage plan for the development of the distribution network and the selection of the optimal operating topology by development periods based on mathematical programming. With the optimal network development plan, it is possible to identify from a set of possible alternative reinforcements of the network exactly optimal investments (new lines, options that include replacement of existing ones, reinforcements of transformations, new connection points), their location, as well as the moment when it is most favorable or necessary to realize a certain reinforcement in the network. At the same time, at the level of each planning period, the radial operation of the network and the connection of both existing and new consumer/production hubs that appear in the network within the planning period are ensured. The optimal network development plan for a multi-year planning period is determined with the aim of minimizing the net present value of total operating and investment costs, which includes costs related to investment in primary equipment, equipment maintenance, energy procurement costs, including energy to cover losses in the network and unsupplied electricity on network level.
