Interdependence and persistence analysis of wind speed time series from different locations in croatia

Abstract

In this paper, an analysis of the mutual dependence of wind speeds at different locations in Croatia was carried out. For the purposes of the calculation, wind speed measurement data from 10 locations in Croatia spatially distributed in counties with the best wind potential were used. These are average 10-minute wind speed data measured at a height of 50m above ground level. The analysis of interdependence of temporal wind speeds from different locations in Croatia, depending on the mutual distance between locations, points to a decrease in interdependence between wind speeds with increasing distance between locations. The results of the statistical analysis for locations from Croatia show good agreement with the results of similar studies. In the second part of the paper, autocorrelation functions for wind speeds at the considered locations are presented. The obtained autocorrelation functions were estimated by an analytical expression consisting of an exponential part (used to model wind persistence at smaller time shifts) and a part used to model the cyclic repetition of wind speeds if the same is present at larger time shifts. Based on the results of the statistical analysis of interdependence and persistence of time wind speed series, analytical expressions are defined that describe the considered dependencies. The obtained analytical expressions can be used to simulate wind speeds/production of wind farms from different locations in Croatia for the purposes of studies in which the influence of wind farms on the operation of the power system is considered.
