The paper describes the basic elements, types, method of execution and characteristics of distribution transformers. In addition to the main parts of the transformer, other additional parts of the transformer that may exist in certain versions are described. Ways to protect transformers from internal and external faults are also explained. The characteristic ways of grounding the constellation of medium voltage networks and the advantages and disadvantages of each design are described.
