Reactive power compensation in the distribution networks and industry

Abstract

The paper describes the basic properties of electric power in an alternating current system. The main consumers of reactive power are listed, especially transformers in distribution networks and asynchronous motors used in industry. Furthermore, various types of compensating devices, their technical and economic advantages are listed, and a special part of the work refers to the most used capacitor batteries. Finally, detailed calculations of typical compensation claims are added.
